Government claims that high levels of immigration bring economic benefits to the country are challenged in a new study published today.
A report from the Migrationwatch think-tank says Tony Blair and other ministers are routinely citing statistics that are disingenuous at best and often wrong. These include the suggestion that immigration contributes 0.5 per cent to the nation's overall GDP and that immigrants contribute £2.5 billion more to the economy than they cost.
Such figures have often been quoted by Mr Blair and Cabinet colleagues in support of record immigration levels.
But the Migrationwatch report says they are misleading because while immigrants do add to the size of the economy they also add to the population.
Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the think-tank, said: "What the Government conveniently fails to mention is that they therefore generate considerable costs in terms of infrastructure - schools, hospitals, housing, transport etc."
When these costs are added back, says the report, the true economic "benefit" to the host population is likely to be at best the addition of 0.1 per cent of GDP, or about 14p a week per head each year. The likely true benefit is probably no better than neutral - as all major studies overseas have also concluded.

Early one Saturday afternoon in July 2003, I made a simple phone call to Margie Schoedinger, a Texas woman who filed a rape lawsuit against George W. Bush in December 2002. I expected to leave a message on a machine, so I was caught a little offguard when Schoedinger answered.

Anyways, Schoedinger said she was surprised the case wasn't covered more because "it is true......People have to be accountable for what they do, and that's why I'm pursuing it."
To be sure, Schoedinger's accusations - which include being drugged and sexually assaulted numerous times by Bush and other men purporting to be FBI agents - are bizarre and hard for most people to believe. But her story fits in with those told by a growing number of people who say they were used as guinea pigs or whatever by members of the CIA or another U.S. agency who wanted to test out the latest mind-controlling drug or just have a strange form of release. And her death - let's just say government agents have made murders look like suicides before.

A 30-year-old Sanford man died Sunday night after being tasered during an altercation with police here.
DeLand Police Chief Ed Overman said the man, whose name had not yet been released this afternoon, was considered a burglar suspect and he fled when approached by police in the downtown area. A woman says police shocked her teenage son 16 times with a stun gun, causing him to temporarily lose his memory, and she plans to seek damages. Sherry Davis and her attorney said they plan to file a tort claim with the city within a week to 10 days.

and most other Christian missions have pulled out because of these
threats.
Some Christian ministries have urged us to us to leave as well, but
our leaders on the scene say that if we pull out, no one will be
there to share the Gospel and minister to the people.
In all of our years in Assam, this is the worst and most severe
problem we have faced. To enforce their demands, the insurgents have
let me know that they have posted their assassins around our Bible
colleges and other offices, and will kill our people if they try to
leave.
At stake in this situation are 5 GFA Bible Colleges, 70 Bridge of
Hope schools, and more than 750 Believers Church congregations.
These insurgents admitted in their threat letter that we are doing
good work among the people, and even commended GFA for our
ministry—but they want money and will kill to get it.
I waited a week after receiving the threat letter before sharing this
with you, because we hoped that negotiations would be fruitful. So
far, these people refuse to back down. I ask you today to pray
earnestly that God will change the hearts of these insurgent leaders,
and that He will surround our leaders and their families with legions
of angels to guard them.
The insurgents have set a deadline of March 10—this Thursday—to meet
their demands. Please be in constant prayer as that day approaches.

Scientists who compared frogs collected over the last 150 years have discovered a dramatic increase in hermaphrodites during the times when contamination from the pesticide DDT and other chlorinated compounds was widespread.

New Scientist contacted two researchers working on the project. Martin Richardson, a laser expert at the University of Central Florida, US, refused to comment. Brian Cooper, an expert in dental pain at the University of Florida, distanced himself from the work, saying "I don't have anything interesting to convey. I was just providing some background for the group." His name appears on a public list of the university's research projects next to the $500,000-plus grant.
John Wood of University College London, UK, an expert in how the brain perceives pain, says the researchers involved in the project should face censure. "It could be used for torture," he says, "the [researchers] must be aware of this."
Amanda Williams, a clinical psychologist at University College London, fears that victims risk long-term harm. "Persistent pain can result from a range of supposedly non-destructive stimuli which nevertheless change the functioning of the nervous system," she says. She is concerned that studies of cultured cells will fall short of demonstrating a safe level for a plasma burst. "They cannot tell us about the pain and psychological consequences.

Descriptions of the Monkey Man of India, first mentioned in police calls on May 13, 2001, have shown little consistency. So far, some described the entity as having a metal claw or claws, while others likened it to a cat with glowing eyes. The MI-5 episode began with the interrogation of a man at a table, suspected of having a missile target illuminator aimed at London when a luggage piece showed a padded place for the military device. When he asks for a lawyer, he is reminded of the UK's Terrorism Act of 2000 (yes, they DID say 2000) under which detention for several days is possible, and no contact with anyone will be allowed. Or longer "if they contact a friendly magistrate, up to several weeks." He still refuses to talk. During a commercial he is moved, and is next seen standing in the middle of a large room cooking away under a bright light. He was kept for many days but still refused to talk. Since he is never fed or watered, dehydration becomes a part of his stay at the crown's Motel Hell. No bucket for collecting bodily waste, although he apparently never needed such relief even after days of detention.
The friendly, loving folks of MI-5 next trick him to grab a bottle of water from the interrogator's hand and down a few gulps. Bad move. It has a poison that makes him vomit violently. He is offered an antidote, but still he won't talk. Suddenly the vomit on the cell floor is completely gone in the next scene. (Must be those new secret nano-janitors at work.) In a real situation, it would have been left there for days to make the prisoner's stay less pleasant at Motel Hell. He is about to endure their "3 F's" of torture - Finance, friends and family at the hands of the droids of motel hell.

A 30-year-old Sanford man died Sunday night after being tasered during an altercation with police here.
DeLand Police Chief Ed Overman said the man, whose name had not yet been released this afternoon, was considered a burglar suspect and he fled when approached by police in the downtown area. The man jumped onto the second-story awning of a building and later broke a window with his bare hands to enter.

A woman says police shocked her teenage son 16 times with a stun gun, causing him to temporarily lose his memory, and she plans to seek damages. Sherry Davis and her attorney said they plan to file a tort claim with the city within a week to 10 days.
Davis said her son, Jim Wring, 18, still does not remember anything except blinding flashes of pain from the night of Nov. 2. She also said her son, who was

Once the investigation had expanded to include Ali, it quickly expanded further still, when wiretaps picked up calls from Ali to attorney Ronald White, a close friend and major fundraiser for Mayor Street. This then led to the bugging of Street's office, which resulted in considerable controversy and local media attention when the bug was discovered in October 2003, just before the Philadelphia mayoral election.
The political scandal, involving wide-ranging financial swindles, soon eclipsed the drug trafficking investigation, and the two investigations were, not surprisingly, claimed to be unrelated matters. Curiously enough though, both Imam Shamsud-din Ali and alleged drug kingpin Kaboni Savage are represented by the very same attorney, Tariq El-Shabazz.
In late June 2004, twelve people, including attorney Ronald White, were charged with defrauding the city of Philadelphia. With the exception of former City Treasurer Corey Kemp, city officials seem to have walked away clean, as did Shamsud-din Ali, who has not been indicted in connection with either the political scandals or the drug trafficking investigation, even though he appears to be a central figure in both.

I have just returned from India bearing a heavy burden that I must
share with you. It is a burden that will require much prayer to lift,
and only God can give us the victory.
This is a true life-and-death emergency, but I want to stress that
the following information is for your prayer intercession only—do not
share it with anyone outside of your own prayer circle, and under no
circumstances place it on a web site or with any other public media.
Here is the situation:
The largest and most sinister insurgent group in the Indian state of
Assam has threatened to kill our leaders there and totally destroy
our ministry among the people if we do not pay them an extortion
demand of almost $186,000 (Rs 8 million).
In a letter on their official letterhead and stamped with their
official seal, the insurgent commander warned our state leaders.
“You are strictly warned that if you do not respect our organization
or if you approach the [government], you will be calling for your
total destruction.”
We have been threatened several times by insurgent groups in this far
northeastern region of India, where even the government is not in
total control. We have already had pastors killed by the insurgents,
and most other Christian missions have pulled out because of these
threats.
Some Christian ministries have urged us to us to leave as well, but
our leaders on the scene say that if we pull out, no one will be
there to share the Gospel and minister to the people.
In all of our years in Assam, this is the worst and most severe
problem we have faced. To enforce their demands, the insurgents have
let me know that they have posted their assassins around our Bible
colleges and other offices, and will kill our people if they try to
leave.
At stake in this situation are 5 GFA Bible Colleges, 70 Bridge of
Hope schools, and more than 750 Believers Church congregations.
These insurgents admitted in their threat letter that we are doing
good work among the people, and even commended GFA for our
ministry—but they want money and will kill to get it.
I waited a week after receiving the threat letter before sharing this
with you, because we hoped that negotiations would be fruitful. So
far, these people refuse to back down. I ask you today to pray
earnestly that God will change the hearts of these insurgent leaders,
and that He will surround our leaders and their families with legions
of angels to guard them.
The insurgents have set a deadline of March 10—this Thursday—to meet
their demands. Please be in constant prayer as that day approaches.
Thank you for standing with us in this most difficult time, and may
God receive the glory as events unfold.
