President George W Bush has firmly rebuffed an attempt by some of his most
senior aides to phase out the use of his signature phrase, the "war on
terror".
Senior officials in the State Department, the Pentagon and the White House have
for the past week been pushing the alternative "global struggle against
violent extremism". It was seen by allies as a belated recognition that
America could not beat terrorism by military means alone.

Arkaim was built according to a previously projected plan as a single
complicated complex, which also had an acute orientation on astronomic objects.
While archaeologists are meticulously brushing dust off ancient stones trying to
recreate the lifestyle of Arkaim's residents, ufologists study mysterious
phenomena, which they register in the town: inexplicable fluctuations of
voltage, magnetic field tension, temperatures and so on.

The photographs, which have been seen by New Yorker journalist Seymour Hersh,
are alleged to contain photographs of U.S. servicemembers involved in raping
detainees, possibly underage. The Bush Administration has successfully blocked
their release, first saying they needed time to anonymize those engaged in
illicit behavior, and then seeking a permanent block, arguing the photos could
endanger troops and civilians overseas.

Boston's Logan International Airport is attempting to pull the plug on
Continental Airlines' free Wi-Fi node, which competes with the airport's
$7.95-a-day pay service.
In an escalating series of threatening letters sent over the last few weeks,
airport officials have pledged to "take all necessary steps to have the
(Wi-Fi) antenna removed" from Continental's frequent flyer lounge.
Continental's free service poses an "unacceptable potential risk" to
communications gear used by the state police and the Transportation Security
Administration, the letters claim.
For its part, Continental says that a 1996 law prevents local officials from
meddling with wireless service and has asked the Federal Communications
Commission to intervene. Its letter to the FCC argues that the agency has
"exclusive jurisdiction" over Wi-Fi and should keep local authorities
at bay.

A bizarre freeway of fish swimming by the thousands along the shore of Englewood Beach Thursday morning left crowds of beach-goers agog and marine biologists bewildered.
"I've lived her for 10 years, and I've never seen anything like this. It's incredible," said Bob Ricci of Englewood.
Beach-goers reported that a wide variety of sea creatures came swimming south in a narrow band close to the beach at mid-morning.
Included in the swarm were clouds of shrimp, crab, grouper, snapper, red fish and flounder. They were joined by more usual species, including sea robins, needlefish and eels.
Ten-year Manasota Key resident Nick Neidlinger spotted the commotion from his condominium shortly before 9 a.m.

Because of various health issues, April Thompson said she had reason to believe she might never have a child.
When she got pregnant, the joy she wanted to share with her employer quickly turned sour when, she said, her boss demanded that she get an abortion or risk losing her job.
Thompson's attorney, Ed Buckley, said the woman eventually was fired by Piedmont Management Associates, a homeowners association management firm, for refusing to get the abortion.
Thompson recently filed a lawsuit in Fulton County Superior Court against the company and its president, Celia Ebert, on grounds of discrimination and emotional duress. "We believe that the conduct of forcing a women to get an abortion falls into intentional infliction of emotional distress," Buckley said.
Ebert's attorney, Benjamin I. Fink, said his client would not comment on the lawsuit.
