held to be without sufficient intention
He quotes the diaries of Charles Lindbergh, the American aviation pioneer, who toured the Far East visiting United States units. On one occasion he commented to a group of senior officers that very few Japanese seemed to be taken prisoner.
"Oh, we could take more if we wanted to," one of the officers replied. "But our boys don't like to take prisoners.

The United States justice department has opened a criminal investigation into allegations that DaimlerChrysler-owned Mercedes paid bribes to foreign officials.
The investigation was sparked by a former Chrysler accountant, who has alleged in a lawsuit that the German carmaker kept secret bank accounts to bribe officials in Africa and Latin America.

School districts all over the United States are actively recruiting foreign teachers for our schools. In this case, Filipino math and science teachers on H-1B visas have just arrived in Nevada.
I have talked to many engineers and programmers that have been unable to get teaching jobs in math and science, despite the fact that they went back to school to get education degrees. Despite the growing number of desperate unemployed high-tech workers states like Nevada still claim there is a shortage of these types of teachers. This is just another cruel insult to the growing number of highly-educated professionals that can't find meaningful work.

The Wahhabists now have the birthplace of the Prophet in their sights. The site survived redevelopment early in the reign of King Abdul al-Aziz ibn Saud 50 years ago when the architect for a library there persuaded the absolute ruler to allow him to keep the remains under the new structure. That concession is under threat after Saudi authorities approved plans to "update" the library with a new structure that would concrete over the existing foundations and their priceless remains

As amphibians continue to mysteriously disappear worldwide, a University of Pittsburgh researcher may have found more pieces of the puzzle. Elaborating on his previous research, Pitt assistant professor of biological sciences Rick Relyea has discovered that Roundup(r), the most commonly used herbicide in the world, is deadly to tadpoles at lower concentrations than previously tested; that the presence of soil does not mitigate the chemical's effects; and that the product kills frogs in addition to tadpoles.

A coalition of insurance companies is attempting to gut consumer protections that will require them to refund potentially tens of millions of dollars to motorists and stop violating state laws.
Safeco Insurance Company has filed an urgent petition with the Court of Appeal in Los Angeles asking it to throw out a citizen group lawsuit -- now in Los Angeles Superior Court -- that would force the company to refund potentially millions of dollars in illegal auto insurance surcharges. Farmers Insurance has filed an identical petition.
The companies have asked the appellate court to rule that consumers have no right to sue when an insurance company overcharges them or violates other provisions of insurance reform Proposition 103.

Allying with enemies of Israel risks God’s wrath
To the editor:
This is in response to the letter to the editor titled “Palestinian question key to solving terror issue” (Daily Journal, July 16).
First, Palestine is a geographical area, not a race of people. The land of Israel was given to the Jewish race of people by my God Jesus Christ, period. He could have given it to anyone he chose; he chose the Jewish people.
The Arabs are occupying the land of Israel. Let the Arab leaders assimilate the Arabs out of Israel. There are at least 21 Arab states surrounding Israel, which, by the way, is the only democratic nation around them.
Allying with the enemies of Israel in a war against terrorism will be disastrous for the United States. Most importantly, it will draw the Lord’s anger and wrath.
“And I will make of thee (Israel) a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing; and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee; and in thee all families of the earth be blessed (Genesis 12:2-3).”
America should never go against Israel, or the Lord’s wrath will come on us and make us a Third World nation and destroy us.
No peace, no Jesus. Know peace, know Jesus.

Israeli diplomats in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, fear that a mob might assault the embassy and are considering moving to Senegal. The Military Council for Justice and Democracy - the group now leading the country after Wednesday's coup - has asked the police to increase security around the building. Mauritania, along with Egypt and Jordan, is one of the three Arab states officially recognising the state of Israel. The decision to recognise Israel was taken by the former regime which was overthrown in the coup.
The Mauritanian population strongly opposed the former regime's international policies, in terms of its diplomatic ties with Israel and military cooperation with the United States on the war of terror.
Last month Mauritania's foreign minister - Mohamed Vall Ould Bellal - called on Arab countries to build closer diplomatic ties with Israel and contribute to the Middle East peace process.

It was a sellout that might be compared to this hypothetical situation: Suppose the United States was at war with the Soviet Union. And we were winning. And we told the Soviet Union: “Well, let's quit. We offer you peace terms. Let's forget the whole thing.” And all of a sudden Red China came into the war as an ally of the Soviet Union. And throwing them into the war brought about our defeat. A crushing defeat, with reparations the likes of which man's imagination cannot encompass. Imagine, then, after that defeat, if we found out that it was the Chinese in this country, our Chinese citizens, who all the time we had thought were loyal citizens working with us, were selling us out to the Soviet Union and that it was through them that Red China was brought into the war against us. How would we feel, then, in the United States against Chinese? I don't think that one of them would dare show his face on any street. There wouldn't be enough convenient lampposts to take care of them. Imagine how we would feel.
